Market Lamb Rules


  1. Ewe and wether lambs are eligible.
  2.  
    1. Lambs will first be divided into finewool, finewool crossbred, medium wools, and southdown breeds. Note: A finewool crossbred must be a first cross between finewool and medium wool breeds. All sheep will be classified at weigh in and decisions of the classifier are final.
    2. Lambs will be divided into one or more weight classes by breed. 
  3. Weight classes will be determined after weighing by the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of the division. 
  4. All lambs in each class will be placed. 
  5. All lambs will have a minimum weight of 90 lbs, except Southdowns which will be 80 lbs. 
  6. All lambs will be slick shorn at time of arrival on show grounds. Sheering legs is optional. 
  7. There will be a Breed Champion and Reserve Breed Champion. They will compete for the Grand Champion and the Reserve Grand Champion of the Show. 
  8. No painting or dyeing will be allowed. Animals will be sifted from the show. 
  9. Lambs will be validated on the 1st Saturday of October between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. with milk teeth in place.
  10. All lambs must stay in assigned pens in show barn and may not be kept or put into trailers or outside pens.
  11. Class Re-weigh: Lambs must not weigh more or less than 5 lbs of weigh-in-weight.
  12. 1st and 2nd place animals in each class will be weighed back and others at the judges' discretion. Animals not weighing within weigh back limits will be disqualified.
